Recognition of Status as a Stateless Person
- The General Inspectorate for Migration issues a decision to recognise or reject (not recognise) the application based on all available information and evidence
- The decision is communicated to the applicant in person or by post to their last declared address, written in Romanian
What Happens After Obtaining Status as a Stateless Person?
A person who has been recognised as stateless is issued with an residence permit/residence card and enjoys the rights and obligations provided for by the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the legislation on the status of foreigners.
Unaccompanied Stateless Minors
An unaccompanied minor who has been recognised as stateless shall be referred to the guardianship authority to ensure their legitimate rights and interests.
Right to Work
Stateless persons with recognized status in the Republic of Moldova have the right to work and to labor protection in accordance with the legislation in force.
Identity Documents
- document/Residence card for stateless persons: issued by the General Inspectorate for Migration
- Travel document: issued by General Inspectorate for Migration on request to stateless persons with recognised status and grants the right to enter and leave the country via any border crossing point open to international traffic.
Right to Health Care
Stateless persons employed under an individual employment contract, with recognised status, enjoy the same rights and obligations regarding compulsory health insurance as citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
Termination of Status as a Stateless Person
- Stateless status ceases automatically upon acquisition of citizenship of the Republic of Moldova or another state
- A stateless person is obliged to inform the General Inspectorate for Migration within 30 days of acquiring citizenship of the Republic of Moldova or another state
To acquire citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the stateless person must apply to the Public Services Agency.
